Hi Rafik

The operation is nothing to worry about ,takes less than 2 hours and normally

you go home the same day. Also you will be given a medicine to relax you.

The ICD site will feel a bit uncomfortable for a few days but nothing serious.

I was back to normal in 2 weeks as regards lifting my arm and find it has been

beneficial.

Look on the ICD as your guardian angel.

Hi. I have an ICD too and nothing but good things to say about it. It's uncomfortable at first and you can't lift anything or raise your arms above shoulder height for six weeks after insertion, but now I don't notice it there at all and am reassured by its presence. There's been a few posts about ICDS before, with lots of happy ICD users responding. Here are a few links.

I have an ICD too due to dangerous heart rhythms and welcome it.

It has saved my life multiple times with antitachycardia pacing and has also delivered 3 full blown shocks when I have gone into Ventricular Fibrilation.

I don't really notice the pacing but you certainly notice the shocks!

Without it though I would not be here.

I am very proud of mine and happy to talk to people about it (if they ask). I love to see how people react when they notice it in the swimming pool. I work for an IT company and some of the engineers have been really interested as it connects via the internet with the hospital so they can see what my heart and the device has been up to.

You are right to ask questions though as it is a life changing event.
