What happens at the follow up appointment? Do they do another ECG/scan/bloods etc? Do you see your surgeon or just a random doctor?

Thanks!

Alison

Mine avr was 6 years ago, and as far as I can remember, I had ECG, x-ray,and an echocardiogram ( this is from memory) and I think I saw my consultant! But can't be positive on that ( it may have been one of his team) X

Hi, I had an ecg and chest x Ray. Then a consultation with my surgeon.

My post bypass follow up was in August. I had chest X-ray (this is mainly to check for fluid on the lungs), ECG and echocardiogram.

Because the appointment was at a really convenient time I rang to check I would be seeing my surgeon and was assured I would. I did not as he was on holiday - I suspect I was just told this without the person actually checking as I cannot imagine senior consultants just wake up one morning and go on holiday!

Like the others, I had an x-ray, ecg and saw one the other consultants as mine had been called away for an emergency, I had however met him before when I was on the ward. Nothing to worry about.

I had a mechanical AVR last May and was seen in the surgical opd in August. On arrival I had my observations and weight taken followed by an ecg and chest xray, I had a post op echo about 3weeks post op (I was still in hospital). I was then seen by the specialist registrar initially and then the consultant came to see me. The consultant looked at my INR readings and lowered my target level . I was discharged from that clinic and am now followed up by my cardiologist.

I have a follow up following open heart surgery on Monday at the Brompton. I have been booked in for an ECG, Echo, Chest xray, blood tests and then to meet with specialist cardiac nurse. Be there a while I think!

I had a 15 min chat with a cardiac nurse. Clearly a stent is so routine these days 😀

Which day do you go? What a shame we haven’t been there at the same time! Hope you are calm and coping well - I’ve been thinking of you and trying to think of things to take to hospital! One thing I was very glad of in St T’s was the M&S downstairs. I got husband to buy loads of the lovely fresh fruit salad packs and fruit juices. Shortbread was good too if you didn’t fancy hospital breakfast but have to take something with meds. Will be in touch!!

Yes ok thanks but not sure how I'll feel when it's really looming! Good luck with your six-week check-up. It'll be gteat to hear how it goes x
