I have heart failure and big problems with congested lungs keeping me awake at night. The diuretic medication I have taken so far helps intermittently, but gives me problems of weakness and depresses my already low blood pressure. The Specialist I have seen privately suggests that I spend a few days in Hospital on a diuretic IV. Has anyone experienced this, and what are the downsides if any?

IV Diuretic treatment
That's interesting as I am tearing my remaining hair out trying to sort out my medication. Having left hospital after being diagnosed with heart failure with the full meds package, I realised that most of that reduces high blood pressure which I don't have, so ditched it. All I have left is Furosemide to combat fluid retention in my chest and ankles. but even that has side effects such as swollen feet and ankles, which have gotten worse (!) Despite an improvement in my sleep, I still wake up after 4 hours. A Specialist switched me to Bumetanide, which had its own problems and so I switched back.
At present all I want is something to reduce fluid retention, without nausea, weakness, breathlessness, difficulty passing water, and everything tasting sweet. Any ideas?
Hi
I have the pain in ass combination of HF, arrhythmia , low blood pressure but no blocked arteries. Consequently the normal combination of drugs to treat heart conditions causes me to get hypotension, and an irregular beat. Step up Entresto. A drug that is not for everyone . I am on the lowest dose , I cannot tolerate anything higher, but Entresto has transformed my life. You have to have certain criteria to get the drug on the nhs ( be on ACE drugs and at stage 2-4 heart failure, I think ) , but if it is right for you ,it really does help
Please do not give medicinal advice on an open forum, no one one knows you and no one aside yourself can vouch for your credentials. As far as I am aware there is no capital p in pharmacist so please stop peddling your views in such a manner.
If you are indeed trained you should be well aware of the dangers of misinformation.
Your comment about bed blocking coffin dodgers is offensive, I doubt even more your self claimed credentials
Thanks for your concern, but I really can look after myself in terms of deciding which medication suggestions from others I should discuss with my GP or Specialist. Aside from anything else, I recently spent 2 years on a team of experts looking at deprescribing long term medications in the NHS, including a Professor of Pharmacy Practice, and Professor of Clinical Pharmacy. None of them want to help for the same reason, but that does not help me!
WE all do react differently to different medication therefore please go with the medical advice from people who have your medical records. This is Internet chat, do be careful on what you read.
Do not get into guess work!
Assumption is a big problem!
If you have a home BP device do check at least three times.
