You need to tell the DVLA. Usually it is a week for motorcycles/cars and six for PSV/HGV. With heart conditions you need your GP's/cardiologist's OK. You also need to inform your insurance company but your premium should be unaffected.
The hospital will advise based on the procedure. I was told to wait 6 weeks (and to be honest there was no way I'd drive a week after the pacemaker fitted, I was still in pain and couldn't have used a gear stick). When you declare to dvla they will contact your medical team to check the details.
I was told not to drive for a week but that it would be okay to drive while the DLVA made up its mind (which took about 5 weeks and was no problem).
