Hi I have just had a pacemaker implanted and wonder how long it reallytakes to feel better?
I hadtwo different procedures two months ago and still feel lousy from them .
Had the pacemaker fitted on Monday .
Some people seem to say they felt better in a few days after the pacemaker was fitted . That's certainly not how I feel!
The leaflets can be contradictory and It would be reassuring to hear from others as to their experience.
Will be having pacing done and sutures removed next week. I don't recover from ops easily so would be glad to know there are other people who are experiencing the same. Thanks

I had an ICD fitted and by 2 weeks was pretty good, not wrestling with t-shirts etc. At 4 weeks I was working but had to be careful about overdoing the arm. Now 10 months on I rarely notice it other than when I sleep on my left side and squash it a bit. You will feel better very soon.
I had my ICD fitted a year ago, but as I haven't yet had to use either the pacing or the defibrillator features yet I'm unable to offer any real help, as it's the meds which have improved my health, my ICD is there as a backup just in case it needs to kick in, but I really hope you feel the benefits of your pacemaker soon.
Hi,I'm 10 weeks post op for my pacemaker and I'm doing well, still a bit sore and tender around the wound site but apart from that getting there slowly, you will start to feel better each day, hope this helps.
I have had a pacemaker for 10 years. It does a good job of regulating my heart beat. I had mine adjusted several times to a higher pulse rate. It is not a cure all but keeps your pulse from dropping too low.
mine fitted Feb 22 as a precaution as an aortic valve change then inevitable but not imminent. Mine a very good experience little pain and quick recovery with g th he assurance that heart rate would not fall dangerously .
Valve changed in Nov 22 and quality of life good. Walk 6000 + steps daily and swim.
Sure you will feel more posative soon but don’t worry if recovery is slow and you have some setbacks.
I had mine fitted over 4 years ago and it has given me my life back. No more feeling dizzy and fainting.
If you take it easy for the first 4 to 6 weeks, and follow all the advice given you by your clinical team, everything should be OK. I was told that it takes about 3 months for the body to adapt fully, but as each day goes by, you should be feeling better and better. In time, you may not even notice that it is there.
Hi PositivePetal, I had my Pacemaker/Defibrillator fitted in August. As soon as I had it fitted I felt as though I could breathe normally and was delighted my husband came to take me home and was amazed! What I hadn’t researched was how uncomfortable it was and the pain when the pain injections wore off. It took me about 4 to 5 weeks to start doing normal things like washing my hair as I was told not to lift my arm up so got someone to wash my hair until I could do it myself. Believe me it is all well worth it you will feel better and just the reassurance of having it knowing it’s there and can save your life if something goes wrong. Stay positive and you are probably over the worst now. X
