Hi, my dad is 88 and having an aortic tavi procedure next week at Basildon hospital. If anyone on here has had one at this age or knows anyone it would be good to hear of their experiences. Many thanks.

TAVI
Hi. I’m waiting to have this done at Brompton hospital. I’ve also posted on here asking about it too, but not had any TAVI specific response. I’m nervous but it definetly needs doing and will protect heart from working too hard. Let me know how he gets on. The waiting is the worst part. Jean
Hi Jean, dad had his TAVI on Wednesday. All went went and he actually slept through the procedure. He would have been discharged on Friday but woke up with a nose bleed so they kept him in another day as a precaution. All was well yesterday so he was sent home. He says he feels better and his looking forward to pottering around in the garden again. Good luck with your Tavi. Its such an amazing procedure to give back some quality of life.x
That’s great news, so pleased it went well. I’d be interested to know what he’s been told he can and can’t do ie lifting, excersise etc. Been waiting since July and beginning to wish they’d just get on with it now. Best wishes. Jean
Dad's eighty eight, lives in a home and walks with the help of a frame. They did the tavi to help him with his breathing as his heart was only working at a 22% capacity and if it worked would give him some quality of life back. He does feel better already and his goal is to get out on the bus as he loves seeing the country side. Not sure if this will happen especially as it's getting colder, but hey, it was good to hear him making plans and saying he has been given this gift and he intends to use it, otherwise what was the point of it all.
Hope it really helps him. my LF is only 22% too, but I also have arrhythmia, scoliosis which has caused major lung functions problems. Hospital hopes TAVI will help breathing but not sure because of other problems, but doing it to protect my heart against it failing due to having to work harder because of the leak/stenosis. I agree, he must make the use of this, hope he gets on that bus soon
Hi Basildon hospital brilliant I done my triple bypass 5 months ago all doctors very good. Don't worry about it.
Good luck
