Hi Vin
Practice standing up and sitting down in a chair without using your arms - you won’t want to put pressure on your arms immediately after your op cos it will hurt like hell.
Use some sort of support for the upper part of your body in bed, after my first op I used a rolled up duvet, but last time I got a double bolster pillow, but the triangular ones are also good, basically something that mimics the hospital bed as lying flat is difficult initially, it also makes it easier getting out of bed.
All the best with your op, it will all be over soon.
Wendy
Good that you are on the home straight, Vinc and that you're getting the new long life Edwards bio valve. I would echo Wendy's advice - a vee shaped pillow gave me upright sleeping comfort so is a 'best buy' which ensures you rest in a symmetrical position which is good for sternum healing. I also kept a small cushion to hand to clutch to my chest in the event of the dreaded sneeze and to keep seat belt pressure off the operation site, post op.
Try to keep active and busy so you're not too focused on counting down the days. It's a major life event but most people find it easier than an active imagination depicts. If you go into surgery as fit and positive as possible, your journey should be easier. Keep us posted.
Good luck with surgery and beyond!
