I was talking to someone today who had OHS a couple of months ago. He needs a knee replacement but they said they would delay it as he had recent major surgery. The problem is they are not giving any indication of timescales. He is not comfortable with computers and I agreed to post on his behalf. Has anybody had any sort of surgery a few months after OHS?

Other Surgery After OHS
No experience in my living memory (age 0-6 months), but had Upper GI surgery December 1996, OHS in February 1997 then 2x Major Lower Gastro- Intestinal in April and May 1997. (So literally weeks later). However, these were not QOL procedures. They were clinically necessary for me to survive the longterm.
With my knowledge know, I would say to your friend at around 3 months post heart op he should be looking to get the all clear to go ahead to proceed with the hip replacement. (If he is not already in the waitlist). By getting the all clear he will start a second wait clock. (The first one is nullified by the decision to delay on 'medical grounds')
I was due to have knee arthroscopic surgery (keyhole so not the same as your friend) when I found out I needed ohs so knee was put on hold. I decided that I wanted to wait six months after ohs before having more surgery-luckily I was still able to get around ok. I had ohs last November and had my arthroscopy 6 weeks ago so 8 months later. The orthopaedic surgeon needed a report from my cardiologist to give me the go ahead. It’s normally a daycase but due to my history they kept me in overnight.
