Hi all hope you are enjoying your Friday. Has any one had any one had any experience with Hypertropic scars? I think my arm where they tried to harvest arteries for my CABG is going that way, although no arteries were used. Thanks in advance x

Hi, how old is your scar? It looks like it could be, have you tried massaging it, be quite forceful, ensure it turns white as you do. You need to break up the tissue beneath it.

Hi Skid112, its just 19 weeks old. Saw my GP today and she basically said do as I am doing, ie bio oil and look at it again when its 12 months old. She said it would fade but the raised bit would stay, which is a shame. It looked fine when the dressing was removed.

Then it's not looking too bad, but I would encourage you to massage it as you put the bio oil on, it does work

Thanks Jo, will try to see the year out and decide what to do. How long has your scar been there?

Hi Jo, sounds painful and I hope you are able to get the best outcome and things improve. Mine is ok, bit of shock after a routine angiogram. I am feeling great at the moment apart from the heat. Take care xx

Hi wiltsgirl,

Hypertrophic scars are the result of excess collagen being produced at the site of a wound., but not as much collagen is produced in hypertrophic scars compared with keloid scars.

Hypertrophic scars don't extend beyond the boundary of the original wound, but they may continue to thicken for up to six months.

While hypertrophic scars are red and raised to start with, before becoming flatter and paler over the course of several years. Keep doing what you are doing and follow up with your GP.

Take Care,

Emily
