Statins post avr

I had a tissue aortic valve replacement in January. Saw my cardiologist yesterday. He said everything was fine but he wants me to have statins despite my total cholesterol being 4. He says it is preventative. I feel it is a bit over the top given that no plaque was seen on my angiogram

There is some suggestion that statins slow the degeration and calcification of tissue valves (which limits their lifespan to around that of the donor mammald). They may have other beneficial effects. You need to discuss this further with him but I suspect he has your best interests at heart (no pun intended).

That actually makes sense. He doesn't want to see me for two years. I will take the stations, your explanation was better than his

I’ve been told satins help tissue valves esp lap made valves.

I believe ur cholesterol can be high even before plaque forms in ur coronary artery. I believe it’s a warning of later plaque. I’m trying to lower my cholesterol at the mo even tho I’m onli young. I’m onli buying food with less that 1% salt and the right types of fat.
