Itching

My first post: I have three stents, last one march 17 in the same area ( all at 6 years intervals, after my first heart attack aged 58). Been on these tablets for over 15 years, lately suffering from severe itching on legs & back: Bisoprolol 7.5mg; Felodipine 5mg; Candasartan 16mg; Aspirin 75mg & Atorvastatin 20mg.

Any ideas : should I change any of the medicine?

Atorvastatin can cause itching. Read the leaflet in the box. Talk to your GP about it. Good Luck!

I had a mitral valve replacement couple of years ago and am on Warfarin, Candarsartan & Bisoporol, as well as iron tablets and folic acid. I have been suffering from range of different itches ever since. I never imagined there are so many forms of itching! The first time, was generalised and while I was still in hospital, was caused by dry skin. E45 cream helped. Annoying, somewhat antisocial, but not painful.

Next time, when it was all over my torso, and hard to resist, it was a symptom of a blocked bile duct, which cured itself, but not until after multiple medical investigations. Itching CAN be a symptom of potentially serious liver and bile duct symptoms.

Lately I have a mild itching over my pelvic area, but also suffer from itching on my shins which is absolutely unignorable, even in my sleep. I frequently draw blood! E45 Anti-itch cream takes about 10 minutes to work and is brilliant - available at pharmacists, but also supermarkets. I believe the latest itching may be due not only to dry skin, but also to overheating - in this cold weather I wear plenty of clothes, but then sit next to the wood burning stove in the evening!

In summary, from my experience, itching may be serious, but may be easily treatable by home remedies. I find a long hot bath with moisturising bubble bath (and perhaps a glass of wine and a good book) is an excellent help!
