Irregular heart beat update!!

Just had a letter from my cardiologist, who was investigating the electrical side of my heart with one of his colleagues. I shall type out the letter as its only short.

Lesley’s last ECG again shows lateral ST segment depression with borderline QT prolongation. The PR interval is short and there was a suspicion of a delta wave in leads V4 to V6 and i just wonder weather this may all turn ou to be pre-excitation.

It’s all medical terms, does anyone understand what it all means.?????

Hi Helen, if I posted details of my husbands heart condition would someone be able to translate it for me? His HF nurse has told us the details, but need someone to tell us what it means in simple layman terms! Thanks for your help x

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Pre-excitation is the delivery of an electrical impulse earlier than would be expected. It can be caused by an additional pathway in the heart, which can bypass the normal conduction route. The ECG findings reported in your husbands letter really need to be discussed through with the person who carried out the test - often a cardiology physiologist - or your husbands cardiologist or doctor. Sometimes these ECG findings can suggest there is an underlying problem, but in some instances it may not be significant for that person. They know him and his situation the best, and will be able to discuss with you what these findings mean for him. I hope that helps. Best wishes, June
