I think I have this Shigellosis virus that’s going around. Im suffering from major diarrhoea. Keeping myself hydrated obviously but wondered if this will affect my medication? It’s meant to last about a week so a bit worried it’s going to cause me a few issues.
Regards

Poor you David that sounds horrid. If the diarrhoea continues overnight it might be worth getting advice either from your GP or your .pharmacist, you especially want to get advice before the weekend. There are drugs that help to stop the diarrhoea but you might be adviced that it's best to get the virus out of the system. Try sipping non fizzy juice or flat cola, sipping not taking big drinks is better if your are also feeling nauseated and gets some sugar into the system. Like wise snacking on a few crisps helps replace the salt you are loosing. Organic yoghurt is good for the gut.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon and the cramps are not too painful.
Being insulin dependant I find D+V particularly difficult to handle. I have found that sips of pineapple juice and nibbling Rich Tea biscuits work for me. Spacing out any tablets you are on also seems to help.
Shigella is not a virus. If diarrhoea is your only symptom, it could be because of a variety of causes and could last some days. Fluids are vital and you can see the pharmacist for a product which replaces your salts and won't be the most pleasant thing you ever drank. Always worth ringing your Doctor for guidance, especially as your medicine absorption etc could be compromised, and rest well in meantime.
