Bypass scar and mammogram

Hi all sorry I have been missing in action. I seem to be back to living my life and in some ways it is hard to think that 7 months ago I had my bypass surgery, I have decided that 2018 is the year to start again.

I have put on loads of weight, there are several reasons for this and I won't bore you just to say - no more excuses and time to move on.

Is the Fitbit group still active? I think I need to join!

I am off to Vegas in March for 2 weeks with my sister, my aunt and her friend, this will be my 14th visit to Vegas (as you can guess I love it) and we usually walk about 7 - 10 miles a day so I need to get in some practice.

I have been lucky with insurance as I pay a monthly amount to a group scheme that I contributed to while working, this includes health insurance, travel insurance, break down cover and a few other things.

As long as I am not traveling against Dr's advice, terminally ill or traveling for medical treatment I am covered under the group scheme. This last till I am 70 years old and to a max of 60 days. I am so glad I kept this going when I finished work nearly 12 years ago.

Anyway I am booked for a mammogram on the 30th Jan and my scar still gives me some discomfort. Has anyone else had the mammogram after surgery and were they gentle with you?

I have had several other mammograms and while uncomfortable I have not found them painful so am hoping the next one is bearable.

Any advice would be helpful.

I hope everyone is well?

I am suffering the usual Januaryitus and can't wait for the Spring and Summer to arrive. I have some work next week but then off again until February 19th, I don't want to push myself do I!!!!

Take care everyone.

Thanks I have joined but only intend to do some walking and no running - I have never been a runner even in my fit/younger days.

Lovely to here from you again. And Happy New Year. Lets hope it's a better one for both of us. My scar still a problem too I feel they have somehow stitched me too tight lol it feels very sore and still burns, but not been to GP about it. I can't advise on mammogram, but I'm sure they will be gentle with you.

Fingers crossed - I am oiling up well with the bio-oil so I hope it goes without any problems, I'll post when I have it done.

I had a mammogram after my first heart surgery. My original appointment was two weeks after my surgery so I cancelled that and eventually had it about 6 months after my surgery and it was fine. Just let the nurse know that you've had surgery and they will look after you. If you are still concerned, give the hospital a ring and speak to someone in that department for advice.

Sounds like you're doing well. All the best for 2018. My New Years resolution is to stay out of hospital for a whole year - something I haven't managed to do for 3 years!

I had to cancel mine due to my brother's heart problem (see new post) I will rearrange as they are in situ until the middle of April.

Hi Mark,

Nice of you to say. I needed to take a step back from it all as I got a bit too immersed in it. Now I've stood back and looked at the bigger picture i've put it into perspective. Heart problems are cr@p.. but it's not going to define me or my life. What will be, will be.

I hope you're doing well mate.

Hi Heather welcome back. The fitbit group is around and growing. As for you scar, time to see your gp I think you've been massaging, oiling and creaming so you've done all you have been asked.

Vegas 14 times wow good for you I went there in 2016 saw rod Stewart very near front row seats, was an experience. I just remember strolling though Caesers palace and as we had time to spare put $5 into a fruit machine and won $300 very lucky indeed though my lovely wife managed to spend it haha.

Take care Mark

Hi Heather, I'll be interested to hear how you get on tomorrow. I am 9 weeks post op and my letter arrived the week after I got home from hospital for 2 weeks later! Had to cancel that appointment but not sure how long I should wait before rebooking. Breast screening said to rearrange when felt more comfortable and GP advised 3 months.
