I thought I would post an update about my op. It is now scheduled for this coming Monday the 30th. As I mentioned in my first post I needed to have a second TOE test to investigate an unidentifiable leak in the far corner of my first TOE. The diagnosis is a hole in my heart which will be repaired at the same time as my other procedures. The tally of procedures is now five, I don’t do things by halves.
I am as prepared as I can be on the practical front, as well as mentally for the actual surgery and also the weeks of recovery; thanks in no small part to this forum.
Thank you to all those who have shared their experiences, offered advice and sent best wishes and kept me in their thoughts. What a wonderful forum this is.
All the best where ever you are in your heart health journey.

Hi Dory, you're certainly going for it! At least it will all be over with in one go, much better than having to have multiple operations!
Glad you're sounding so positive now, it's a daunting prospect when you first get told you're having major heart surgery. Hope you sail through it all.
Make sure you come back and post on here, we can compare notes, assuming I actually get my operation this time - 1 November hopefully.
Will be thinking if you and sending positive thoughts.
Hi Dory, just to say I will be thinking about you on Monday, I hope all goes well and you are soon on the road to recovery. As you say this site is so helpful for advice and just knowing that other people are feeling the same emotions and fears.
Hi Dory, wishing you the very best for your operation on Monday. You seem to have everything under control. Just go with the flow and rest as much as you can. Before you know it you'll be up and walking around the ward with a physiotherapist.
My op is Monday too and in a much more positive mood. Months and months of waiting had taken its toll but now its nearly here just want it done and can focus on getting myself better.
Hi Phil, how long has it been from the consultation with your surgeon and now please? It might give me a clue as I'm under Papworth too. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Margaret x
I've had to involve my local MP in expediting the date for surgery because of the lengthy delays and deterioration in my health. If I hadn't I suspect the operation wouldn't have occurred until next year. Cardiologist advised the operation was urgent back in May.
Thanks Phil, I'm pleased you have managed to bring it forward. I'm not an urgent case so I'm resigned to waiting. Good luck, please keep us posted re your recovery. Margaret
Take some things in with you to do after your op - puzzle books etc, hospital can be very boring! Don't be surprised if your attention span isn't too good though, last time I tried to read a book and kept having to re-read pages as I couldn't remember what I'd read! Did puzzles instead, less taxing on my brain 😸
Oh no, hopefully it's just a 24 hour thing, pretty sure they won't operate if it turns into a full blown cold - risks with the anaesthetic/lungs. Fingers crossed for you. xx
I wish you all well for next week. I've been waiting for ages and on the one hand I'm dreading it, but on the other hand I want to get it over with and get my life back on track. Please do keep posting about your recovery, it's a great comfort. I'll be thinking of you all and, in a strange way, feel envious. Love and hugs. Margaret x
As you may have seen in my reply to Wendy I have developed some cold symptoms which is really annoying. I am doing all the usual things to try and kick it into touch. Will see how I am in the morning 😟x
