Good evening all, can I ask if anyone has claimed PIP and ESA. My salary has come to an end and I'm really worried about money or the lack of it.

I don't know when or if I'll be fit to return to work any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

Tracey

Hi Tracey, I can remember one thread, healthunlocked.com/bhf/post.... Though this was refused, there was some good advice here on what steps to take.

Hope you feel better soon

Hi Tracey. I have heart failure and do receive PIP. Not sure I have much useful advice. By the sounds of other people's experiences, I think I got lucky with the person who assessed my claim. Probably the most important thing (something my assessor helped me with) is to make sure you frame your symptoms within the criteria they set out. Take your time to work out what aspects of your condition fit with the questions on the form and answer them in a concise way, sticking to precisely what the form asks. As far as I know, it's awarded on a points system, so the more boxes you tick, the better. And then you just have to take your chances with the interview. Not how it should work, but definitely how it does work. I feel so lucky to have mine. It's enabled me to work less hours and still be able to afford to run my car and pay for gym membership etc. These things make a huge difference to how I can manage my condition. Not that the assessors are interested in how you'd use the money or what difference it would make, so don't bother trying to tell them! :)

Best of luck with it x

Hi Tracey

Laura has given great advice, but for the real detail about both PIP and ESA have a look at Citizens Advice website. Here are the links you need:

citizensadvice.org.uk/benef...

Remember that PIP is about the help you need, NOT the help that you get.

citizensadvice.org.uk/benef...

For you, this is likely to be Contribution-based ESA in which case the complication about whether or not you're in a Universal Credit area isn't relevant at this stage.

Good luck with the claims. Suggest you run forms past your local Citizens Advice (if you have one) before you submit them.

Best wishes for a good recovery

Alan

Hi I went onto half pay last month, and I claimed esa, the one I got is contribution based so I qualified for the maximum amount,I then applied to get my council tax (Scotland) reduced and it has now been halfed you also get free dental treatment, mabe prescriptions but not sure about that, this has all been a great help to me, but I am also going to get advice about claiming pip as I find daily things more of a struggle now, I hope this helps take care chaz x
