I went for my gym induction this morning! Woohoo! The man who was showing me the ropes was totally unfazed by the news of my heart condition and device (I love it when that happens) and didn't bombard me with too much info, just showed me a selection of equipment suitable to get me started. I'm going back on Thursday to devise an exercise programme, but did stay for a mini workout today. When I left the gym, still red-faced and sweaty, I bumped into my consultant and at that precise moment my Fitbit buzzed for 10,000 steps. Managed to play it cool and just say hello, but I wanted to shout, "I've joined the gym! I've just done some exercise! I've done 10,000 steps and it's not even lunchtime! Do you want me to do an exercise test soon?" Ha! Oh, I feel like such a winner today Really quite excited about my gym membership. Now that I've got over the first hurdle of uncertainty and know where I'm going etc (and that the showers are private and have lockable doors!) I really feel like this gym thing might work out for me.

Yesssssss WELL DONE
Nice one Laura, well done you
Well done Laura 👏🏻
Great to hear you really enjoyed it, well done you xx
Thanks for all the likes and comments, everyone! Always nice to have a virtual pat on the back from those who understand And I promise no more bragging from me today
Keep enjoying it and be sensible remember that it is a process of building on achievement that makes a gym programme sustainable. Millions join only hundreds and thousands keep at it.
Really great start though.
Thanks, Mark, definitely got that in mind. Hoping that using the gym while my daughter does gymnastics in the same building and swimming while she has her lessons in the same pool will give me a good minimum starting point. I'll be in the building already, just need to give that last wee push to actually use the facilities while I'm there. Further motivation to get on the treadmill - it's getting into Glasgow's rainy season and I can't see myself walking as much over the coming months, but don't want my Fitbit to be disappointed in me!
Sounds like a solid start and good motivation for sustained exercise. The real benefit is you feel extremely good after wards.
In Cornwall its always the rainy season - 5000 steps on the treadmill as a warm-up to stamina and conditioning exercise is where I begin but meeting with my GP next week to discuss bidding for money to develop Social Prescriptions (Oh I'm a professional fund-raiser and bid writer so this is something I can do for them).
Hopefully if successful I can get a short prescription to take up sailing as my attempts to swim are closely linked to drowning in style
Laura your enthusiasm is infectious - let us know what equipment and goals you have set.
