To gym or not to gym?

Read an article on our local paper website about whether its safe to use a gym, the gist of the article was that gyms are fertile breeding grounds for germs (Coronavirus) and best avoided for anyone with underlying health conditions, especially for now. Looks like I will be missing my weekly gym fix until the current crisis is over, have to make do with my exercise bike, stepper, and weights combined with cycling and walking when the weather permits. 🤔

You made a good choice. Avoiding gatherings of people in general is good medicine.

Also my cardio rehab is now cancelled. Going to use my home gym equipment and go for now.

Yes our local hospital based cardio rehab has also closed. Sad as it was a social gathering place for many in our small town. I have a treadmill and ex bike that are calling my name.

I've given up going to the gym and instead just go out running along quiet roads. If I approach anyone else I'll move across to the opposite side of the road. Paranoid? Yep!

This post has made me feel better as I did not go to stage 4 rehab today - part of it is in the gym and as there was no sanitiser or paper roll and disinfectant for wiping handles etc last Thursday I thought it better not to go today. I asked one of the sports centre employees what had happened and he told me that "as soon as they put it out, it disappeared".

A cafe near me can't leave out a spare loo roll as they walk off!

As a lifelong fitness fanatic I would say definitely stay away from the gym. Over the years I have lost count of the number of people I have seen drag themselves into the gym coughing and spluttering, thinking an exercise session will do them some good. They are certainly fertile breeding grounds for all kinds of nastiness. My own answer is to exercise at home in my garage, get out on my bike, or get out walking on the hills. The latter two activities I find far more beneficial for the soul as well. As an aside, in light of all this insane panic buying, I have a friend who uses one of these 24 hour gyms. Yesterday when they arrived, some kind soul had stolen all the hand sanitizers, toilet rolls, hand soap dispensers and paper towels from the entire building. Utter madness.
