hello everyone , I'm a 14 year old girl and I have palmoplanter keratodermia. the regular person has 3 layers of skin and as far as I know , i have 7. I've been avoiding the dermatologist because I'm deathly afraid. my mom told me when I was younger I got a lot of treatments but now that I'm older , she wants to take me back. lately it's been really hard to even stand on my feet. I try to remove some excess skin but it's verrryy painful. I'm not here for you to sympathize me but I just wanna know that I'm not the only one out here and I'm desperate for anything to help me.

I've looked this up and don't know if it is, strictly speaking, the same as psoriasis .... but no matter, I'm sure you know a lot more about it than I do from a quick google.

I can't help but sympathise but I won't say more than that seeing as that's not what you're after.

I reckon you're quite brave just coming here and telling it like it is. Or perhaps it's a sign that you are ready to do something about it and just want a bit of support from other people who know what it's like to feel scared of going to the doctor. Well, old lady that I am, I still get very apprehensive about doctor's appointments. You know, I don't think there's any way round it .... what's the saying? 'Feel the fear and do it anyway'.

I'm sure doctors should work hard on behalf of patients of all ages, but I wouldn't mind betting that many will go the extra mile to help a young teenager in your situation.

When I eventually showed my fairly awful outbreak of psoriasis to a dermatologist last year I was amazed at how understanding they were and how seriously they took it.

You haven't got anything to lose by going to the doctor and it sounds as if you have a nice supportive mom behind you too.

I NEED a very good cup of coffee and some cake after seeing the doctor ... coffee may not do it for you, but definitely book in a treat of some kind.

If we can help then please let us ... by letting us know how it goes ... by having a rant if you need to let off steam and also keep looking because I bet someone who reads your post will have experience of the same condition.

Go on, bite the bullet and seek treatment ... things could get SO much better ....

I've recently been diagnosed with palmoplanter psorias on the soles of my feet, so can relate to a lot of what you've said. Painful condition, especially when walking. I too try to remove the thickened skin, it really is pretty pointless, as it just returns within the next day or two, plus it causes a lot of pain. My doctor has prescribed dovobet ointment, a topical steroid, which helps somewhat with the intense itching, but it's still early days. I have to use this ointment for four weeks. Will see if it helps!
