Help on losing again.

So last year I lost a dramatic amount of weight (not in a healthy way). Over the course of the past year I have been exercising more, about 5-6 days a week, mix of cardio, HIIT, swimming, spinning and weights. I have gained about 10 pounds back, however the smaller clothes still fit. I can't wrap my head around the number on the scale and it is driving me crazy. I was able to get to 121 pounds and now am at 131 and I can't make the scale move. I have had my macros all over the place. I have my calories set at 1,300 and never eat (or if I do, no more that half) of my exercise calories back. I burn an average of 200 calories on a light exercise day and on a heavy exercise day about 600-700. I eat clean, don't buy processed foods. I need help.

Redderrunnergirl,

I lost 60 pounds over the past 2 years, 35 of those pounds in the past 10 months.

I share your predicament and frustration!

I am exercising 6 days a week, just as I was all summer when I reached my lowest weight of 165 pounds. In the past 6 weeks, I have begun to struggle with carbohydrate cravings and have gained 15 pounds.

It sounds like you have great control of your caloric intake, which is where I'm slipping.

I wish I had some brilliant advice to offer you, but I can only offer my support as this is a very challenging phase of weight loss, maintaining the lifestyle and dietary changes that make our weight loss "permanent"!

You are probably more lean than you used to be...muscle is denser than fat, so as your are doing a lot of exercise it would be better to judge your progress on size, not weight.

The BMI charts are a great example of this...a muscular rugby player would be classed as morbidly obese on a BMI chart even though they would be extremely healthy...because the chart does not take into account muscle mass and just judges the weight as fat.

You need to be very careful too...as it sounds as though you may have anorexic and bulimic tendencies...Excessively exercising and possibly under-eating. Maybe have a look at the 'BEAT' website and see if you can relate to anything on there. I did and it was the first step in accepting that i had a problem and getting help. There is no blame, only support.

Here if you ever need to chat ;)
