Daughter not sleeping: Hi, my daughter is having... - Behçet's UK
Daughter not sleeping
Tamirra
I have given in and asked the doctor for something to help me sleep (I'm taking 5-10mg temazepam. They don't like giving it to you but with all the medications we are taking everything goes out of whack. Sinitta has to sleep to let the body heal itself. As you say she can't function the next day.

Have you tried Melatonin it can really help and it is natural.
I use melatonin when I can't sleep and it works great.
It is used a lot in america especially for jet lag as it works well for this.
Having a wonderful soak in of a bath lavender essential oil in the evening is lovely and gives you a good mights sleep.
There is also chamomile Tea which you can get easily from the supermarket. There is also a tea called easy sleep tea which is a herbal combination.
Some of these are worth a try before trying a medication as such.
When I had a real bad problem with sleep I took a medication which is classed as a antidepressant called mirtazapine and this was a god send but she would have to ask her G.P for a prescription for this.
Worse problem i the world is not beig able to sleep so I hope she can find something to help her soon.
Andrea
Thank you for the suggestions will pass on. x
Actually the warm bath to unwind is a very good idea (lavender is my favourite scent).
The other thing I was thinking of is I stick to a routine regarding getting up and going to bed (much harder when you are Sinitta's age).
I used to get migraines and one of the books by a specialist here said it helped a lot of people if they always got up at the same time - even on the weekends - something to do with the body clock.

Thanks for that LJG lol x
hi Hun,
It's amazing that the number of people who have problems going off to sleep do all sorts of things they think will help them like watching TV or reading in bed.
I take it there is nothing on her mind keeping her awake like financial or medical problems that she needs to talk about ? That always helps to get it off your chest if something is bothering you enough to keep you awake at nights.
If she is just not settling to sleep and there is no other reason that she shouldn't be, as Lesley said, she needs to have a regular routine of deciding a time to go to bed and sticking to it. This should not be having 'an early night' but a sensible regular time she would normally go to bed.
Don't eat wthin 3 hours of going to bed and don't have anything to drink that may be a stimulant like tea or coffee. Absoloutely NO alcohol ! Have a nice hot milky drink like horlicks, get into bed and LIE DOWN. (sounds logical but many people prop themselves up until they feel tired and so don't properly relax) Close your eyes when you are in your normal sleep position and try to relax. Don't put on any TVs or Radios that may be a distraction because you will automatically subconciously tune into them.
Make sure the room is warm but not stifling and there is a little air flow (either bedroom door slightly ajar or a window just on the minimum open latch. The room should be as dark as possible so no side lights or curtains open.
If all this fails then as Lesley said....get something to knock you out ! LOL
All good common sense tips hun

Hi xandi, thank you for your comment, she does have a lot of past problems that she is seeking help with professionally so this could be the prob of her not driffting off to sleep, i will get her some lavender oil to try. x x
Hi erssie, she does have a partner but she finds it very difficult to talk about her passed to anyone except me, and i can only help to a certain degree, she does have professional help dealing with past demons which kinda helps but it cant change what did happen, and this is a huge weight on her shoulders, she did sleep last night with the new meds she was given, so hopefully in time things may resolve. x x
