Piercing Joint pain

The weather has definitely warmed up the last couple of days which is great and I have felt the benefit in my joints and dropped the colchicine back down. I can be standing still and I get a sharp piercing pain in a joint enough to make me squeal....am I going potty?

Maybe the pains could be attributable to reducing the Colchicine?

You could be right, I normally have a dull ache rather than the piercing pain.

My rheumatologist said maximum of 3 x 500mg a day so I was trying to only take 3 when I was desperate.

I don't actually know what the maximum size dose of colchicine is.

Maximum dose is 12 x 500 mcg per day (I make it my business to know the max dosages of all my meds!)

My action in your situation would be to continue on what is really the maintenance of 3 x 500 mcg which should keep your sharp pain down to a dull ache. I am on a maintenance dose of 4 x 500 mcg but I've never had any tolerance issues with it.

That's the problem with meds isn't it - you feel better so you reduce them, then the pain comes back 2 or threefold because it was the meds that made you feel better in the first place!

Oh, yeah - personal opinion only and not medical advice :-)

Di....my joint pain is worse the last 2 weeks so GP gave me 2 x slow release Diclofenac 75mg. She said if no improvement in a week or so to stop using it, and I don't feel any improvement ....if anything it's worse.

Two questions my dear if i may;

1. I had alcohol xmas eve which coincided with the onset of my period which triggered a massive migraine that lasted for 2 days with SCREAMING joint pain

- could the alcohol have diluted the colchicine causing the increased joint pain?

- Should I never drink alcohol to prevent this?

2.I stopped the Diclo today and instead took 2x 500mcg colhicine and am free of joint pain for the first time in weeks.....( I remember that you took maintenance of 4 x 500mcg per day....my rheumy suggested 3 x 500mcg but it costs £190 to see him so I thought I would give it a shot first)

I'm going to take 2 x 500mcg more later and see what happens

- Why is my joint pain worse at night in bed?

I'm falling asleep crying and waking my husband moaning in the night

- Is this normal for Behcet?

Hope you don't mind me asking so much and appreciate it's personal opinion but that is worth a bloody lot in this game

Hope you had a lovely xmas and your steaks were juicy

lots of love Jill

Jill, I am not at my proper pc at the moment and this reply will probably need a lot of words that I can't manage with this keyboard! I will attempt to send you a full reply tomorrow. For what its worth, I take 2 colchicine in the morning and two at night (as prescribed!)

Bang on dumps. I shall take 3 as a normal dose secure in the knowledge I am a big gal and could take more if required.

And you are right that I did have it nailed down to a dull ache.

Glad ur feeling better DI and your advice is much appreciated Love Jilll x
