Went to get MRI today as rheum wants to check brain for NBD. I got stuck and had to be pulled out. Can neuro be checked by CT scan instead as MRI is out until I lose weight which isnt easy when you are wheelchair bound and on steroids.

MRI disaster.
Hello
I have neurological Behcets and had an MRI scan and i hate having MRI scans. As I understand it from my GP if the problem is that Behcets is in the vascular sytesm of the brain then yes a CAT scan will show the same as an MRI scan. However I think if the health professionals are looking to see if Behcets or inflamation caused by Behcets can be found in the tissue etc of the brain or the brain stem, then, i am not sure if a CAT scan can show the same imaging as an MRI scan.
I think you have raised an excellent question and I hope a health professional comes on this site and helps asnwer your question as it would be good for all of us who have or are suspeced of having Behcets in the brain to know, as this would then tell us our options and enable us to have possible choices that meet our individual needs.
Thank you for your help MRI is suitable to a select few and not those like myself who have weight issues. Need to get back to my rheuma to let them know.
Has anyone suggested a SPECT scan? That might be suitable for you. It depends if they are looking for general/any indications or problems or something specific. Have you seen a Neurologist? If not, then a Neurologist's opinion and suggestions may help to temporarily resolve this issue.
Ok I am calling my Rheum on Mon just to let them know what happened. Thank you for help. I am in a bit of a tunnel just now.
I've had a few scans and I understand what you mean, they are pretty tight!
Why not ask for an open scanner? My last scan was performed on one of these, they just put a section adjacent your ears and then clip a top section over your head. It's like a giant polo around your head.
I know they are not in every hospital and that privately they are expensive. Mine was paid for by my insurers - I had another issue that required a scan although I also have BD.
