I had terrible period issues, very heavy bleeding, couldn't go anywhere for leaking etc. GP referred me to Gynaecology and I had a D&C and insertion of Mirena Coil in 2012.

Since, no bleeding at all, missed Menopause completely, now 62 and have had no Gynae issues since that day. Only problem I have is that it does need taken out, but because I've had around 10 pelvic floor surgeries, I'm rather 'disordered' down there, and nobody can find the end! Needs taken out under anaesthetic, but that's hardly likely to be a priority for the NHS in it's current state!

Hi the best thing I ever did was have the mirena coil fitted. It didn't make any of my BD symptoms worse. I'm 60 this year & have had no menopause symptoms at all. I've been told I need to have it removed but am loathed to have it out in case I start getting menopause problems.

Hello Dear Icefire ,

When I was 27 yo my Gynecologist told me that despise I didn’t has had children my whole painful and too much blood loss period would be solve with the Mirena Coil.

And was a definitely a life changing experience, when I get my heart surgery the convalescence was the worse time of my life, and the Mirena Coil help me to get to those awful times without terrible cramps and weakness due to the blood loss.

I admit that was scary at the beginning because I didn’t know what to expect but after the first six months everything turned out pretty good.

That was my experience, I hope yours goes as good as mine :)

Best regards,

Thamy :).

Hi, I had the mirena from mid twenties to thirties and for 10 years, even though the hormonal part I was told could expire around 4 years, it behaved the same to the end in terms of period control. I had it for heavy periods (family tendency to low vitamin K so any one reading this with heavy periods try boosting to see if it helps, I found this info too late). I’d tried tranexamic acid, nothing really worked. It was difficult for the first few months, spotting etc but did settle down. I couldn’t discern differences between this and what may have been uncontrolled Behcets at that age, but having it over that time helped manage one more symptom for me. I’ve read some women have had terrible problems with it but I was ok broadly even with the Behcets. You can only share your own experience in the hope it helps others.
