Dear Ashvini, I am so sorry to hear this, truly, as you know my young son has the same issue, brainstem/Lesions, vision loss in left eye 47% back of eye visual missing, Right Side upper body weak arm/hand first attack, we have the most serious kind of behcets as you have. There are articles on familial disease in Behcets, it would be best to express these questions to the Behcets Hospital/Genetics who can truly guide you more, as only they can establish the accuracy of genetics in individual cases... longdom.org/open-access/fam...
The process of disease is exceptional and complicated to each one of us...We are with you, we are same as you express here, our Son was done Genetic Test, and they told us that at least one parent had to carry the HLAB51+ gene myself or my husband, in order for my son to have PNBD, but neither of us developed it...but our SOn HLAB51+ did, because as a child he got sick in day care with serious lip bacteria infection, (I remember that horrible day), and then went to India few years later, he got sick with travel dirrhea...over time, he developed Behcets...what doctors thought he had allergies...not...it was behcets happening slowly..
Please take care and really speak to the expert doctors who can guide you in their capacity...
Internet is just for general knowledge...
Hi Ashveer actually my brother in law was suffering from vasculitis from last 2 yrs. This disease is so deadly and dangerous that we are scared of this now. Actually my brother in law had a 1.5 yr old daughter just wanted to know is this disease heridatery for my niece.
Ashvini, I will just add from my experience and the genetic tests done on my son, the Genetic Specialists told us that testing for Gene is not a promise, as the Genes and environmental factos play major role in triggering diseases, so as for my daughter, 26, now, I have told her to be careful of unhealthy environments, we are practicing Dentistry with Neem all of us at home to rid of bacteria in tooth brushes, and drink occasionally Neem Tea, and Turmeric to clear the stomach....for my son, he had two serious infections in his age 2-8 years, the external environment impacted his suspectible genetics...one does not need to carry behcets gene to get behcets, can happen without it also, but those who are are HLAB451+ it is 6 times more...true, if your brother in law was HLAB51+ only one of the genes associated with Behcets found far, (there are many genes others too)... does not mean that your young child having this gene will develop Behcets for sure...it is Very Crucial, that you lead a very health Gut Bacteria in her life time...I cannot stress this enough...when children get sick, they need extra means to make their stomach free of bacteria...you can pratice soon using Neem Toothpaste with her when she starts brushing...Give her health diet...Our Doctor Friend Rheumatologist told us to stay away from dairy and meat as much as possible, but you can use organic milk time to time...use more plant based diet for her...from my experience, when she travels, make sure she does not get sick to her stomach...if she does, anytime, that she is seen by children hospital for extensive testing that she is free of Gut Bacteria...that is more crucial than genetics...the Environment is more dangeours than Genetics...keep this in mind...she will be all right...make Neem and Turmeric your lifetime friends...consult a specialist who knows these herbs very well and can work with your doctors...I have all of the letters from the Genetic Specialists and that is what I have written...Genes are unpredictable, she says...but the Environment, you can control for sure, as much as possible...totally understand, and my heart is with your child...I have a sick son for a lifetime danger...I understand...Regards Ashveer
Ashvini, So sorry for your loss. Condolences to you and your family. The question of heredity is a complex one best answered by experts. As far as I am aware, according to what I have read over the past few years it is not classed as hereditary, though members of the same family can share a predisposition towards it.
