Has anyone had issues with their hips? I've been dealing with left hip pain for a few years now. Found out that I need surgery. Is this a common thing with Bechet's?

Hip problems
I would imagine it's unrelated, although I do think it makes sense that our cartilage may not recover as well as someone without BD because of increased inflammatory cytokines and odd vascular responses. I needed knee surgery for a torn meniscus and the doctor was surprised by how much damage I did, and how little the cartilage appeared to try and heal itself. I have a similar hip injury but I have an extra piece of bone that apparently is shredding up cartilage in there. Isn't BD related but I'm sure the BD isn't helping haha.
Hi Hun yes I have suffered with hip pain both sides which was one of the reasons why I presented as well as the ulceration ! I have had steroid injections into my left hip which did help a lot ! Because of the way I was walking due to the pain , I caused my arches to drop on my feet! I also suffer with quite bad ankle pain but not so much knee pain! Hope this helps! ( p.s I know it sounds silly but I also suffer with severe thumb and wrist pain!!) jo xx
I have osteoarthritis in my hips, knees and spine.
My very first flare up - long before diagnosis, was severe inflammation in one knee - ended up in hospital a couple of times with that. Over the next few years I had severe inflammation in both knees and both hips - ended up in hospital each time. During one hospitalisation they did an MRI and said I (also, aside from the Behcets diagnosis) had congenital hip dysplasia, and I would need a double hip replacement eventually.
My point here is although the congenital hip dysplasia caused severe osteoarthritis, it seemed my behcets caused severe inflammation in response. The worse the ostearthritis, the worse the inflammation. I ended up in a wheelchair for a year, then bedridden for a few months while waiting for my hips to be replaced. Now that I have had both hips replaced, I am back to 'normal.' I am still on immuno-suppressants etc, but generally i am fine. The year before my hip replacements, and up to a year afterwards was hell. Nobody seemed to understand the pain I was in, even opiods did little for it. I barely survived it.
Reactive arthritis in the joints is common in Behcets as far as I am aware, but it usually doesn't do the damage that say, Rhematoid Arthritis does. But... In my case, the inflammmation (which i think was a response to the mechanical problem of my hip dysplasia) did do damage similar to RA. After surgery, my orthopedic surgeon said that my hips were about the worst he had seen - the bone had started dying (osteocronosis) . ("Now i see why you were in so much pain!" - thanks, a bit late).
So.... Although the literature says that the arthritis of Behcets does not usually cause permanent damage to the joints, it sure did with me. Whether that was just a confluence of the osteoarthritis caused by the hip dysplasia AND the Behcets ...or..... Something else?? Who knows.
