New Behcet's information

The journal Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology publishes a supplement every year that's just about Behcet's. The latest issue just came out, and you can see the table of contents here:

Except for the first three articles (which are free), you have to pay for the rest. BUT scroll to the bottom and you can download many/most(?) of the abstracts (summaries) from the latest research presented at the 2016 international BD conference. I suggest downloading them ASAP, because I'm not sure how long they'll be available for free.

I haven't had time to read all the abstracts, but some look pretty interesting. Enjoy!

They have been very interesting although some a little difficult to fully understand. What did interest me was the research into 'Scintigraphy'. I've never come across this diagnostic tool before so I googled it to learn more!. I'm in my 60's and although not diagnosed until 48 I had oral, genital and articular symptoms from 11. One stumbling block was that I rarely had joint swelling in ankles, knees, wrists, elbows and later sacroiliac and shoulder joints so these symptoms were never taken seriously. Plus normal X-rays didn't show abnormalities. Over the years I spent a fortune on osteopaths, chiropractors and physios - especially as I then had a physical job as a P.E. teacher - probably not the best choice of career! I was forced through ill health to change course!

I wonder how many physicians use scintigaphy today in Behcets diagnosis?

I'm sorry it's taken so long to answer!

Scintigraphy has been used for Behcet's patients, but not as a diagnostic tool. Right now there's no diagnostic test that will definitely say someone has Behcet's -- but doctors can add these results to a person's signs/symptoms and *other* test results while they're trying to decide if BD is the best diagnosis.

Anyway, here are a couple of studies that show the use of scintigraphy to look at joint problems in BD. I've given links so you can look at the abstracts (summaries). If you want to read the whole article(s), a medical library should help you get them for free.

I am thinking of signing up for a login ID and seeing if I can access full papers. A number of these also give an email address for one or more authors. If one were so inclined, I wonder if an email to the author asking for a copy of the article may receive a response.

I've had some success writing to authors to get a copy, but some also say they can't do it because of copyright restrictions. Good luck either way!
