Do I need to trouble going to A&E...?

Hi all,

I'm just going to jump right in here.

I've had dry, sore, inflamed skin directly under my eyes for about a week now. It started off just as typical dry skin but now I feel as though my under eyes are swollen and my eyes feel heavy and super sore.

I just spoke to my pharmacist who knows my behcets situation since I was younger and he believes it could be related and to if it gets any worse or refuses to let up, go to a&e.

Has anyone had anything like this before and do we think its worth going to a&e for? Does it sound related to you? I dont know what to do really... also scared to death when it comes to behcets and eye problems so I'm kind of wanting to write it off as behcets to hide from the possibility...

Hi behcetswarrior, sorry to hear how sore your eyes are and hope they are on the mend. Do you have a local eye hospital? If so, they generally have an a&e attached and you may be able to go and sit and wait or ring beforehand for an appointment (I know that is the case in Birmingham eye hospital). Your GP may be able to help or your local hospital a&e if you are at all worried. Let us know how you get on. Best wishes to you.

Sorry for the late reply on this but I've only just had a chance to catch up on posts on here.

I've recently attended the Liverpool Centre of Excellence and had a probable diagnosis of BD with various symptoms.

What caught my attention is you mention inflamed skin under your eyes. About 3 years ago the skin directly under my eyes went insane and was dry, raw, inflamed and looked horrendous.

At this time I hadn't heard of Behcets and hadn't had the recent flare-up that lead to me finding out about it. I was also living in Sri Lanka so medical care wasn't quite what you would get back home... Upshot is I went to the hospital and was given steroid cream to apply very carefully to avoid my actual eyes. The doctor I saw wasn't a specialist (in anything, I believe) but said he thought it was some kind of dermatitis. My right eye had a bit of inflammation but nothing too scary. After about 2 weeks the skin had healed up and I used Germolene on it so the scarring cleared up after about 4 weeks.

Did you manage to see a specialist, and what did they say? I'd forgotten all about this as it was a while ago and I didn't directly link it, so might mention it to Prof Moots at my next appointment to see if he thinks it might be linked to BD.
