Are you on any other medication?? If you are I would check with your Dr as sometimes Ibuprofen is not suitable, I take Warfarin so Ibuprofen is on my banned list.

Unless specified by a doctor, it is always unwise to take two different pain killers at the same time. I think you should ask, but for the time being, stick to paracetamol as it has less side effects than ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and, as such, could affect your kidneys.

The best thing to do would be to visit your GP and explain how much, or when your pain is worse.

Best of luck.

For me personally, Ibuprofen has been the best off-the-shelf pain remedy but my reason for saying that is I'm impressed with its anti-inflammatory effect on top of the pain relief. It has very noticeably helped in reducing the severity of some of my flare-ups, and I believe helped others from being worse.

But usual caveats apply about personal reactions and risks of mixing with other prescription medicines or taking for long periods of time etc. etc. Also I guess there is a danger in trying to self-medicate if you're having a serious flare that might need much stronger medication to control.

Pop along to your local surgery and sit down with the nurse that covers the pain relief schedules and they will talk through your needs and put in place a base level of pain medication that can be built on during the day if necessary. The objective of pain relief is generally to have a base of pain medication that covers your needs that you take regularly so that the pain doesn't come on suddenly and catch you out all the time. It is better that someone who is practiced and professional sets this out for you rather than having a go at doing it yourself so that it is on record and they can advise you as your needs increase as time goes on. Hope you get sorted out soon ! mwah !
