Looking back, I'm wondering if my placental abruption and preterm labor were related to Behcet's? Sound familiar to anyone?

I didn't have that particular problem but I had heaps of trouble falling pregnant and when I did holding the baby. I had my daughter 2.5 weeks early (she has BD age 11) and I had my son 5.5 weeks early after my liver stopped working. This was a frightening time but all went well in the end. He is a healthy 9 year old but does get ulcers up his nose & on face, I'm watching.

Did a doctor ever suggest that the Behcet's was probably responsible for pregnancy issues? Sorry that you, too, had pregnancy issues but like me, glad it went well in the end. Wishing you all the best.

Hi, i have suffered with Behcets for 28 years now and during this time I had 2 children who are now grown up healthy men. I did have Caesarian sections and the boys due to complications after my first son's birth when I had a full emergency, 27 hours labour then baby was in distress, finally I stopped breathing and I was cut straight down the middle without anesthetic. My son was fine but I was really quite unwell. Stayed in hospital for 20 days then signed myself out and had a doctor and nurse to the house for another 10 days. Forgot to mention that because of the rush in keeping me and my baby alive the stitches and clips opened up after a few days and had to be redone and I caught an infection due to this. I often felt I never fully recovered as I was always tired and weak........never ever given a thought that this could have started the BD!!!!! until you posted. Anyway I am blessed as they said I shouldn't have more children but as I said I went on to have two more. My children are all fine and hopefully this will continue. Who knows what brings on this terrible disease but I think we have to be careful not to blame everything on BD as we could be missing some other problem just as important

Which could get missed in our belief that we know what it is!!!!!

Hi all with my son who is now 25 he turned and caused obstruction of the bowel, not much fun. Ended up with emergency section ie cut down the middle that then proceded to burst open at 12 days they refused to re sew me so had to do salt baths and packing yuk yuk yuk. He was born 4 weeks early but a good weight 6lbs 13 oz. Then went on to have a nasty infection in the wound many antibiotics, was not diagnosed with bd at this point but looking back can see bd symptoms already. Then my daughter who is 21 went full term plus a week did 2 1/2 days labour then baby got into trouble so another c section. This time not good at 24 hrs old she was rushed with high temp to specail baby unit with an infection had to have a lumbar pun to try and prove what it was she was given very toxic antibis, and again my stitches all burst septic hemotoma. She was born at a very good weight 9lbs 12 3/4 oz needles to say she was my last. After all this the bd symptoms kicked up a gear the sore throats were awful the spots well never without looking back someone should have seen it... But they didnt and it took another 12 years before we got a name.

Was diagnosed with BD one month after falling pregnant with second child. From four months in had difficulty breathing and stabbing pain between shoulder blades. Chest x-ray was clear. Heart was fine. I collapsed at 29 weeks. Suspected blood clot. Was actually pneumonia and collapsed lung. Was in intensive care and airlifted to UK, but stabilised. However, even after treatment I "lost" one month through illness. I never recovered during pregnancy. Baby in utero was well, thankfully. Obstetricians insisted on early delivery though as carrying to term was too risky for me. Saw the amazing BD Obstetrician Catherine Nelson-Piercy at St Thomas's in London. Despite numerous tests, no one could pin point exactly why I was so ill. Was not having a flare. Was given steroid injections for baby. Was very worried but she was great at birth and is a happy, healthy 9 month old now.

Thanks all for sharing! I am considering having a baby next year and this is very valuable information. You all seem to have had difficult pregnancies... but made it in the end. Just trying to find the courage.. Is a BD pregnancy considered high risk?

Hi, I have two children, a 3 year old and a 9 month old and both pregnancies were fine although was taking prednisolone during my first pregnancy and nothing during my second. First baby born at term and the second induced 2 weeks overdue but both born healthy and well. My symptoms were mainly under control during pregnancy although lately ulcers seem to have returned with avengance so back on colchicine and waiting for appointment at clinic in London. Good luck x
