New to all this but was loking on internet and found this site im about to start campath did anyone get any side effectsand has it worked?
Hi there
I am not a Dr but i can tell you my experience with having the Campath Chemotherapy for the treatment of Behcets DiseaseI and maybe give you some helpful advice. I had my Campath In July.of this year at Liverpool Aintree. From what i can gather different centres give it differently. One place gives it over 2 days but where i had it at Liverpool Aintree it is given for 2 weeks every other day and weekends off. Side effects whilst having the infusion for me was it affected my breathing and i had a rash that burned and itched and pains in my legs and you can become hot or quite cold. Weeks after the pains were still in my legs and hot baths helped, i could have stayed in there all day. My mouth was severely ulcerated inside and out and still is now. Tiredness has affected me greatly and even now seems to be still with me. You are usually given a regime of steroids iv and piriton and paracetamol to limit side effects whilst having the infusion before the Campath is given. As with all meds everyone reacts differently but if you feel at all unwell or if anything feels different or unusual be sure to tell the nursing staff as soon as this starts to happen. Keeping away from infection after the regime is the difficult thing. I have 4 children and bugs were flying about everywhere. I had a temp on my second week post campath and started with a cough. I ended up back in hospital for 3 weeks with pneumonia. So it is important to get your bloods checked weekly like they say so things can be picked up sooner rather than later. As for it working i am told is too early to tell. I have not seen any improvement as yet because my Bd seems to have gone into override. My regime began on 29th July so should be starting to feel some benefits soon. Good luck with your treatment and positive vibes being sent your way x
