5 year old with re-occuring mouth ulcers
Reoccuring mouth ulcers are very common its when they have other symptoms to i would bevin to worry. My 17 year old has had them since 2 and it was my first thought to. I told my dr my worries but he said they are very common indeed. Touch wood she hasnt had any other behcets symptoms but she did get her tonsills out at the age of 4 as these used to cause her alot of pain with the ulcers. I worry when my my girls get them now in fact my 1 year old gets them frequently to and it is in the back of my mind about behcets. If you really do see some connections with other symptoms chat to your dr x
Thank you for your answer, there is no other symptoms at present thank goodness. x x
Hi tamirra,
I don't really have any experience with this as I don't have any kids myself. I also agree that canker sores are a fairly common thing in children. The only worry I suppose is the fact that I have read many people on here suffered from ulcers since childhood but didn't really show sother signs of Behcet's until much later on. But for now, as long as she isn't having any other problems or even just boughts of fatigue, then I would try my best not to think too much of it. I know that sounds easier said than done though. Just try to put that in the back of your mind for now. Just as infliximab74 has said, if you or your daughter begin to feel that there is more going on, then get her checked out and discuss it with her doctor. Because most doctors, especially pediatricians won't know much about the disease, I would bring her into see your daughter's doctor who treats her Behcet's... he/she would be able to thoroughly examine her and would know if it could actually be the disease, or if he doesn't think it is, then he might be able to ease your minds much better. I can only imagine how both of you feel though because I often worry that if I do have a child, then they could have Behcet's also and I would never want that for any child to have to deal with.

Thank you jenna we will keep close eye on her x
Hi Tamirra,
I'd just like to add, before going to see your GP, I would consider keeping a tracker on her ulcers - where they are, how long they last, what she's eating, any activities, events, stressors etc
There may be a trigger/sensitivity that you haven't noticed - or something making her nervous? It could just be her teeth developing?
We did this with my daughter and found that she gets ulcers from lemon juice, of all things. I'm still watching her like a hawk for other Behcets signs but nothing so far.
Beau.
Thank you Leb thats a good idea as she does seem to get quite large ones when the do come. x
Hi Tamirra
My mum gets worse mouth ulcers that I do but she doesn't appear to have BD. She is thinking that gluten and maybe yeast might be the culprit. Would be good to do as Beau said and watch what she eats to see if you can identify the trigger.
Lesley
Hi Lesley long time no hear are you ok? Yes we will be keeping a close eye on her. Been to London again with Sinitta to the COE and they are considering TNF treatment, we have got to go back in 4 months once they have had a meeting and come to a conclusion. Take care x x
PS are you still ok for the ointment, is it still working? x
