Has anyone ever suffered really bad thrush/yeast infection?

I’ve got white milky discharge, inflammation on my labia and it absolutely kills me to go for a wee.

Anyone else?

Yes I have - have you:

a) taken a STD test to make sure it’s not chlamydia or whatever?

B) I use a gel called FLORAPLUS MULTI-GYN

(Or boots etc have their own brand stuff which also does the trick.)

I’m just waiting to see if these antibiotics work (7 day course) for what the doctor has prescribed me. She’s also given me some canestan. I also took a tablet last night that should clear thrush within a few days and my vagina is less red today. Does this mean it’s working?

I’ve never suffered with anything like this before

Thank you

Yes I wouldn’t worry about it. Sometime being diabetic can increase the risk but if you don’t have that, it will just come and go.

Most women suffer from thrush fairly often - myself included. Things that trigger it (for me) particularly bad periods (you know the super heavy ass ones!) and too much sex.

Thrush happens when your PH balance in your vagina is upset. Antibiotics will kill off the ones giving you thrush but also probably a lot of the good. So make sure you wear breathable underwear and try not using any perfumes things like shower gel or creams near it. Don’t take unnecessary antibiotics - as I said it will upset the ph balance. The ones the dr has given you will be to treat your particular one but I’ve take other antibiotics (anti malarials) and they can sometimes cause it.

It should clear up. Don’t worry too much about it even though it’s a bit distressing if you’ve never had it. It’s very common and so long as it doesn’t indicate underlying conditions like diabetes it’s just a case of trying your best to look after it!

The gels I spoke about - I use them even if I haven’t got thrush per sey. If I know I might be likely to - they are natural and they just restore the balance. (Eg if I’ve had a lot of sex / bad period and think - it might happen) I use them.

Also - there is a product called Salcura I think - it’s a spray which is natural and can help prevent and soothe the outer parts of the vagina.

Hope this helps but don’t stress too much, it will subside and next time if it happens again you know not to worry too much.

So long as you also keep your sexual health check ups regular!

It was really red yesterday and now it’s less red and so much discharge. Also a few blisters. I think it’s hurting me to urinate because of the outer skin being so sore. Never suffered with it before, it’s ever since I used an old razor to shave last week

Even before I read you section about blisters , I was going to suggest you went to a sexual health clinic for assessment. This level of discomfort would be very unusual for candida ( thrush ) and more in keeping with primary herpes ( cold sore virus ). I would contact your local sexual health unit . If they are triaging, say you have ulcers ( broken skin ) . Then they will see you as urgent. Don't wait. The sooner you start antivirals if it is that problem, the sooner you will feel better.

The most common misdiagnosis of the cold sore virus is that it is thrush, because itching and discomfort also happen.

If it is the cold sore virus, this is an excellent webpage : herpes.org.uk/
