Microgynon & abdominal pain

I have been on microgynon for just over a year and had bad stomach pains/discomfort ever since. I came off of the pill at the start of lockdown to see if it went away and it did, but I still don't feel comfortable having sex without being on the pill. Is there any suggestions of pills that don't have this side effect as it is very disruptive to everyday life. I understand everyone reacts differently, but is there a general solution to this?

You could trial the progesterone only pill which would eliminate one hormone, and see how you manage. This is an unusual side effect for the combined pill, and if you are experiencing abdominal discomfort, have you had a medical assessment ? When you say "stomach " do you mean upper ( near your ribcage ) or lower down ( pelvis ) ?

It's sort of all over, it feels sort of like indigestion but I only ever get it if I'm on the pill

Hmm it is listed as a possible side effect on the EMC website :

Its definitely worth a trial of something else , if when off the pill you were symptom free. If you need to take a combined contraceptive for some reason, you could see if you get the same symptoms with the patch or vaginal ring.
