Hi there. I’ve recently just come off my depo injection. My shot was due February but I didn’t get it, I just wondered how everyone’s experiences were with it such as when periods arrived, was it hard to get pregnant again, do you feel it helped weight loss ?

Took at least 6 months for periods to return. Zero help with weight loss and wasn't looking to become pregnant.

Yes can take up to 6 months for periods to return. 10% or so of women on depo may experience weight gain. of course weight loss is as a result of diet and exercise, so if you genuinely had weight gain on depo and are taking step to reduce it , you may see a difference over time.

I had my last depo injection on 25th June 2019 and i am still waiting for my periods to return. Not lost any weight either. I spoke to the family planning nurse last week and she said it can take upto 12 months for periods to return so I've not to worry yet. If not returned by 12 months to ask the GP to check my hormone levels by blood test. I am not planning to have a child and can't be pregnant so I am not too concerned if my periods don't come back after 12 months but my cycle used to be bang on time when I had my copper coil. Depo was the worst thing I did, suffered with depression and horrible moods with it, plus weight gain.

I was on depo for six months and stopped because I reacted badly to it and had to deal with the nightmare of it all. Didn’t attend my next shot and booked in for the copper coil and had non stop bleeding for several months. I have had two “periods” but this could be just part of having the coil so I can’t comment for certain. I managed to lose a few pounds but I’m sure it’s because I was so bloated all the time! If you haven’t had a period in over six months I would check in with your doc for blood tests and choose your next path x
