Pain on my upper left thigh woke me up

Please help I really can't afford to see a doctor right now otherwise I should have done that, last night a pain on my left thigh woke me up, I couldn't get back to sleep cos the pain was much, I had to place my left leg on top of my speaker which actually helped, I slept and woke up hours later feeling nothing, I just want to know if it won't happen again or what can I do to prevent such situation again

Is this not a simple muscle cramp which can happen to anyone ?
