Once you get chlamydia can you pass it on straight away or can it stay unnoticed for a while ?

I had no symptoms but I got really bad symptoms for thrush so they did the tests anyway while I was there and I’ve just been told I’m positive for chlamydia. I’ve been wiv my boyfriend for two months and I haven’t cheated and he’s been checked through our relationship. I had a one night thing a week before I met him but if I got it before him then could I hv not passed it on until recently or would I hv given it to him the first time we had sex

Hi JB

Chlamydia often causes no symptoms so it can be difficult to tell when you picked it up if you've not been tested in a while.

You don't say whether you use condoms? They are very good at preventing transmission.

Even if you didn't use condoms Chlamydia doesn't pass on straight away every time so he may have just got lucky.

Its not 100% that if you have an infection, that you will pass it on the first time you have sex with someone, even on further times. These even applies to HIV .
