How quickly can you pass on an sti

Hi, I had unprotected oral from someone. I’m pretty sure I’ve got an sti. Had tests done that were negative but I’ve got to have another one.

So I had unprotected oral on a Friday. Then the following day I had sex with someone else. Is it possible that the sti I caught on Friday wouldn’t be transmissible the day after

It is possible by sheer good fortune not to transmit an STI, including HIV. For blood borne infections, some factors can increase or decrease the risk ie an intact mucous membrane etc. For bacterial infections, in the early stages, there may not be many bacteria around and therefore unlikely to transmit. However this is never a 100% certainty and testing would certainly be recommended. Remember that testing very soon after the sexual event may initially be negative, even with modern DNA tests. Ideally testing should be done 1-2 weeks after, although can be earlier if symptomatic. Syphilis 4 weeks, HIV 45 days ( on blood )

You haven't specified what symptoms you have that make you feel you have an STI , or what tests you have done so far. Some tests may only be performed at a sexual health clinic ( microscopy )

I’ve had 2 urine samples taken after a week. And I just feel like I need to pee a lot. No discharge I don’t think. Nothing obvious anyway. What bacterial infections do you mean, like chlamydia?

I’m going to a clinic now, I’m on day 12

Urine tests sent by a GP usually just get checked for urinary tract infections, unless you specifically ask for chlamydia testing. If you dont have a urethral discharge, its unlikely you have gonhorroea. NSU is another possibility ( if there is an sti there ) , this is only diagnosed by microscopy in a clinic.

The urine tests tested for gonnorea and chylamidia but were done on day 7, also tested for uti same day.

Personally I would be happy with negative tests day 7, that they are reliable. I think you need a clinic visit for micro if still symptomatic.

Just back from clinic. She tried to see if there was discharge from urethra and didn’t see any. She did mention that I have a bridge of skin in the middle of my peehole, that makes it look like 2 peepholes. Says that ain’t normal. But I’ve never had any problems before so unlikely to be the cause of what I’m feeling.

Did a urine test, which she did a micro on and said that there was no sign of uti. So sending it of to lab to check for chylamidia and gonnorea aswell as Mgen

Glad you got seen. Hope all settles down.

Thanks, I just hope it’s not an sti.

Say a prayer for me 🙏👍

I’ve been there. It’s so stressful. You will be fine.

I doubt it. I’ve been with my wife 13 years, never once was I unfaithful, I made the biggest mistake of my life nearly 2 weeks ago. Unprotected oral with a stranger, I stopped it after 30 seconds. But the guilt and fear of passing her an sti has lead to me not sleeping a wink over 2 weeks. I haven’t been going to work either, I believe I might even be having a mini breakdown. It’s one thing explaining to her I cheated but another to tell her I’ve given her an sti. I pray to god this can work out in my favour and I’ll spend the rest of my life dedicated to making her happy. Thanks for listening

That is called hypospadias and is extremely common. Likely one is a blind passage and it is the other that you pee and ejaculate through. A heterosexual contact for oral sex is unlikely to transmit any infections, but of course it is always worth testing .

in reply to Galen70

Yeah, I should get the results Friday or Monday.

in reply to Galen70

Results from day 12 tests all clear. Is this a reliable enough test to rule out sti now?

If you are asymptomatic , a day 12 test I would normally consider satisfactory for bacterial sti's including gonhorroea and chlamydia , especially through oral sex in a heterosexual contact. For completeness, a 4 week test for syphilis and a 45 day test for HIV would complete the screen, althogh the chance of either of these in a heterosexual oral contact is low.

in reply to Galen70

Well, the symptom I have is frequently needing to pee. The sexual health worker indicated that I won’t need another test

If you had a dipstick urine ruling out a urianry tract infection ( uncommon in males ) then no further sexual health testing is required. If you continue to have symptoms , you would need a urological assessment.

Thanks for all your help 👍

I really wish you all the best.

Thank you, I appreciate it!

So no result today, they said wait till Monday. I’m going out of my mind here, watching every little thing my wife does incase she is showing symptoms. I dunno wether to tell her now or wait till Monday when I know the full story.

Frustrating. You didn’t really need the wait.

in reply to xsevenx

I’m so scared of losing her when I tell her. What a stupid idiot I am. Completely out of character

Still no obvious signs of discharge and it’s now day 14. Just frequent need to pee. Could that be down to my severe anxiety. Feel sick to my stomach!

All symptoms gone yesterday, but need to pee is back again today, along with bladder pain. Should mention I’ve had no erections for 14 days. Reading into this, I’ve come across prostatitis. And wonder if this is what I could have.
