I tested positive for chlamydia a couple years ago, At that time I had slept with a couple people whilst travelling therefore I have never known who I contracted it from. I only showed symptoms from the last hookup though so does that mean it was passed on from him? Or did that encounter just trigger symptoms from an already infection? Anyways I find myself in the same situation stupidly. I had unprotected sex with someone abroad 6 months ago and recently slept with the boy Im seeing. I’ve tested positive for chlamydia again! So I don’t know if I contracted the infection months ago or if the boy I’m seeing gave it to me
My question is, Can sleeping with an uninfected person trigger symptoms if I already had chlamydia? Or does that just mean that I got it from that person

No, sleeping with an unaffected person cannot trigger your Chlamydia symptoms even if you're already infected. The incubation peak simply co-incided with you having sex with the boy you seeing.... so it's probably unrealted that it showed up after this encounter. It's possible for Chlamydia to stay unsymptomatic from weeks to months. Though I cannot vouch for sure that you were infected from before.
There is no absolute way of testing this. You do not always develop symptoms on acquiring an STI , and you can develop symptoms later on. If you are in the 15-24 age group, and you have unprotected sex, there is a 1 in ten chance of getting chlamydia - 10% - and 70% women have no symptoms. The more times you get chlamydia, the higher the chance of complications. So use a condom , or get a new partner screened before you stop using them.
