Hi guys, I’ve had herpes type 2 for five years now. Over the years outbreaks have decreased a lot. I started having a outbreak last Friday. I had a cold so didn’t surprise me I got one. However normally my outbreaks will go within a few days but this one shows no signs of going and is so so painful!! I had a little look with a mirror and it seriously isn’t drying out. So painful when I go pee too. It’s bewn nearly 6 days now. Do you think because I had a bad cold I’m extra run down and that’s why the outbreak is painful and taking long to go. I haven’t been taking acyclovir because I ran out so letting it go away naturally. Any suggestions or advice?

Herpes outbreak not going...
My outbreaks usually last 5-6 days I’ve just had the start of one yesterday and I feel like a cold is coming so I definitely think they’re linked also I’m about to start my period so my hormones are everywhere too 😅 it will go it’s probably having a cold too has made it stay that little bit longer just try eating foods high in lysine like eggs, meat beans and lentils, they’re meant to decrease outbreaks x
Normally they don’t bother me but it’s not now day 6 and still so so painful. Yeah it bled a little I’m not sure weather my jeans or underwear have irritated it. I’ll see how it is by Monday x
I would say you're probably extra run down at the moment. I find taking lots of vitamin c helps stop outbreaks coming. Don't wear tight clothes they will aggrevate it more x
Flu like symptoms are a symptom/signal that you are going to get an out break. I do not personally have genital herpes, but my best friend does. Whenever she starts feeling fatigued and flu like symptoms she knows an outbreak is coming. I get coldsores on my lips :(. I would personally suggest investing in some Lysine pills.. you can buy them in the vitamin isle.. they are sort of pricey I think, but they help a lot. If you get lots of outbreaks you may want to take some everyday.. or as soon as you feel any symptoms coming on take a whack of it. I have Lysine on hand for when I feel a tingle, and my friend takes it daily. She also makes a paste with the Lysine powder.. mix it like a 2:1 ratio so its like a paster and put it directly on effected area.
Hope that helps you, and I'm sorry you have to go through this!
Hi Courtney, is there a way I can contact you? I would like to speak to you privately. Could you please pm me if you can? I can't message you for some reason.
Do you take acyclovir or Valtrex ? I am currently having the same issue . I take valtrex 500mg 2 a day to start then 1 a day for 3 days . But this time it has been continuous . Am at wits end . I have read that L Lysine helps . Have you ever tried it ? Thanks
Hi,
I don’t actually take any medication any more. My body became better at tackling them and now no I only get an outbreak like once a year if that. How long have you had the virus? It’s been nine years for me. The first year was hell but since then improved each year. I haven’t tried lysine but I’ve heard it can help. I would day you need to find what triggers them but to be honest mine were constant the first year now I’ll only get one if I have a bad cold.
