Contraceptive Implant

Hi, It's coming up to three years since I had the implant put in, so it will need to be removed soon. I was just wondering how long you can wait to have it removed after the three years? Because I am terrified of needles and having it removed on my own and I want to wait till I am back from uni which isn't for another month

First of all, don't panic. The guideline time is only there because that's the point that the implant will stop releasing the hormone that makes it contraceptive. You can keep your implant in for months after the three years, however it's ineffective and recommended that you do take it out so that there aren't complications when trying to remove it. So long as you can still feel the implant it can be removed like normal. There's no judgment and usually no problems with waiting a month, just make sure to carry on using other methods of protection.

*I didn't get mine removed for months and it was fine.

Hope this was useful for you
