Baby just seems grunty and miserable all the time

Hi mums,

Can anyone help me? I’m worried my 6 week old boy is constantly miserable. He has 2 states: Completely content and asleep (this is usually when being held and barely lasts half an hour) and awake and miserable. This can be crying, writhing, straining, grunting or just generally moaning. He just never seems relaxed and happy. My friend had a baby a week before me, and she’s the complete opposite! Sleeps like a dream, always smiling and content. My little one hasnt smiled yet 😔 the night time grunting / straining is CONSTANT some nights he barely gets any sleep from it, which means I don’t either

I’m at my wits end. Ive tried speaking to health visitor but im constantly being dismissed with ‘blocked nose’ or ‘colic - try this milk’ which hasnt worked and she can’t offer me another solution. I’m worried im failing him as a mother as he’s not happy 😭

I could have written this post myself. Battling basically the same. Always nasally, told it was mucus from section delivery but 5 weeks on still there. So now we’re tackling reflux and possible cows milk allergy and have chopped and changed milks so much as well as be on all different meds. At night time he’s so bunged up it’s like how is he breathing he’s so blocked up in the nose (considering they’re nose breathers). He doesn’t sleep much at night, fights naps in the day and is always restless. I have to say I’ve not felt the whole Mum failure bit yet as I’m too busy feeling useless and trying to find stuff that will settle him but I get told some babies are just like this. I feel and hear you though, I really do! Xx
