Hello,

I am a PhD student at the University of Huddersfield and I am posting regarding a piece of research I am running as part of my PhD. My research focus is the experience of autistic individuals within the English criminal justice system.

What is the study about?

The purpose of this study is to investigate the views and lived experiences of the English legal system for individuals with a diagnosis of ASD, their families and the criminal justice professionals who have worked with them. This research aims to develop an understanding of the measures in place within the English legal system to support individuals with a diagnosis of Autism, and to identify any gaps within this provision.

I understand the importance of the lived experience of autistic individuals and their families. Therefore, I am reaching out to your organisation to see whether it would be possible to share this research with your members to give them the opportunity to have their voices heard. I am seeking any autistic individual, or their family member, who has experienced the English criminal justice system, or experienced a trial within a court as either a victim, witness, or defendant.

This research has been given ethical approval by the University of Huddersfield and all contributions are anonymous.

I have included the link below if anyone is interested in taking part.
