does anyone know why the muscles in one leg only, suddenly go very hard? Sometimes this will be my calf, sotimes higher (my thigh). My Physoi says, it's most likely to be nerve damage from my brain injury. But it might not!
muscle spasms: does anyone know why the muscles in... - Ataxia UK
muscle spasms
Hi Scruffycat,
One of my calf muscles occasionally goes into spasm and becomes hard to the touch, it usually relaxes soon afterwards. I have SCA but don't specifically associate the spasm
to the condition, it can happen to anybody.
interesting diagnosis. I've not had that one.
I've done some searching on the internet, and nothing is ever conclusive, but we could be getting closer.
I think most of us on this site have Spino Cerebellar Ataxia of one type
or another. Could one of the other HealthUnlocked Sites offer you more
information relating to your specific condition? It's worth a look.
I agree with your sugestion, the only thing stopping me at the moment is that too many "correct diagnoses" is not only potentially damaging to my health, it is also too much for my tiny mind to cope with!!!!
It took me years to get a diagnosis that was reliable. At
times I actually thought I was going mad, loads of weird symptoms and no-one took me seriously. I read about your horse, he obviously gives you a lot of pleasure, that's
something to be glad about. How often are you able to see him?
My wife, it's all down to her. She researched it and everything. I started somewhere else about 5 years ago. Again the peaople were excellant, I was so floppy, it took loads of helpers, just to hold me on.
My wife broke her hand a few weeks ago, so I havn't seen him for 3 weeks. Normally Iride him about 1 hour each week (apart from school hols)
What an achievement to have such a rapour, Dickin sounds a very special horse.
I hope your wife's hand heals quickly, well
done to her for organising things.

i get these, there very annoying.....i've put them down to Ataxia but i've yet to ask my speacialist, so i will be going to see him in june, i shall ask him then
thanks, and you're right, they are annoying.
The cramps and spasms I believe are related to Ataxia (in my case anyway), I get it/them in the calf and big toe area its awfully painful. The doctors are so non committal on all things ataxic. I had a gastric bypass about 3 years ago, they were the same on that condition, mainly, 'everybody is different' whatever your ailment. Same old story different condition, they must learn 'stock answers' in medical school, do they teach politicians at the same school I wonder? Sorry rant over folks. Yours, frustrated, Ataxialand.
I was diagnosed 10 years ago with Sporadic Cerebellar Ataxia (unknown cause). My muscles spasm, and my neurologist says that he sees this symptom in many patients with ataxia. Anyway, the drug "Baclofen" helps some people. I am extremely sensitive to medications, and although it helped, the side effects were too much for me. Therefore, I find if I do stretches each day as well as exercises for strength and balance, I get relief from my spasms. Of course, everyone is different in terms of what helps them. I would suggest you talk with your neurologist or doctor for advice..., ;o)
Same as Ithought really. I've nothing to lose anyway,
Could it be Stiff Person Syndrome? This has muscles stiffening and ataxia as its symptoms.
Exercise and other things can set the spasms off. Worth exploring.
Too much exercise. Interesting.
I've had bad leg for almost a week, seems to stretch from my knee up to my higher thigh, not sure whether its muscle spasam thou. It started feeling like 'creepy crawlers' or itching, then it turned to 'fireworks and electric shocks in my thigh, it was horrible and making me jumpy and restless. It seems to be getting better, its now only the odd itch, but its worse at night, so lost 4 nights sleep over it!
Hi, I have the same thing and I do believe that it is caused by nerve damage in the body. I never had that before the many drugs I was given, which have caused brain and nerve damage. See my message to Lynn, as I have mentioned to things that have helped me a lot. Good luck, and let me know how it goes! Patti
