I have had a diagnosis of SCA 1 for approx 8 years and initially managed, even working (I'm a nurse). Had lots of support but now find my mobility is poor (2 sticks or a walker) and today lost all strength in my right thigh and just fell to the floor. So difficult as I live alone. Took ages to get up!! (Silly me!)
I do exercise every day and have a relative who is a Physio so hope I'm doing the right things. The muscle pain is getting worse despite analgesia.
Any kind suggestions?
Sincerely, Adnyl

Thanks very much for responding.I hope things go well for you. Funny times these! Shielding and being locked away! At least when I have had enough of it all I can get in my car and drive to the seafront and smell the fresh air.
🤔 I’m experiencing increasingly more pain myself, and after speaking to an Ataxia Nurse I take an over the counter painkiller before going to bed. My balance is bad due to Vestibular issues, and sitting is becoming too much like the norm, because then symptoms settle down and it’s far more restful.
But, sitting still itself has caused me even more problems because I easily stiffen, then when I try to get up balance is much worse and I’m at higher risk of falls. So..I’m attempting to keep my legs moving while sitting down, raising them and flexing the muscles periodically, and it does seem to be helping 🙂
I too suffer whenever I sit (at the computer usually) for too long! I bought an elliptical machine made just for sitting. You keep your legs moving while you sit. It fits neatly under a desk and even my legs are very long, they don't bump into it. You cannot stand on this little machine. The trick is to keep pedaling. It's too easy to stop.
Hi,i only use my walker when going for a walk 20 miin is my limit i can't trust sticks as they wouldn't help if i was about to fall i furniture walk indoors i find it safer.
