is heartburn and feeling sick another side effect i remember my dad used to suffer with it and is it alright to use antacid daily to counter the effects

Heartburn and feeling sick are not symptoms of Ataxia directly but is a common problem in the general population. It is fine to use antacids daily to help control this uncomfortable symptom but don't obviously exceed the maximum daily dose on the packet/bottle. As well as medication several lifestyle factors can help-avoid caffeine, avoid carbonated drinks, avoid smoking, avoid spicy foods, eat smalll meals and regularly, keep a healthy weight, keep upright as far as possible (e.g. raise your bedhead).

If your heartburn doesn't settle you should go and see your GP as heartburn can be a symptom of many underlying problems.

thanks harriet i dont smoke and try to keep weight down and rarely drink caffeine ive had tests before and nothing could be found and i eat quite a bland diet

Snap! I have just remembered that my dad too used to live on gaviscon and zantac. I was his carer and made all his meals. We do eat alot differently from then, and have less rich food. We have also recently greatly reduced the gluten and dairy in our diets ( because my daughter has developed a quite bad gluten allergy in her 20s). This has reduced all our digestion problems.

I think Harriet's tips on diet change will help. I also remember Dad had the headend of his bed on bricks to help at night!
