Watch out, Fraud is about!

I am writing this as a slightly tired and stupid person as it seems now for the third time, I have become the victim of fraud again. I used to think that I was quite an intelligent person and given the disability I do all my shopping online.

Well the latest is that there is a bogus internet site that is meant to be shark.co.uk it seems it is not kosha and I spent the better part of today trying to get my money back on my credit card, I have also been receiving really unpleasant emails that want me to pay money in bit coin or my whole life will be published to the world, it is okay as you would die of boredom if you got it, last year someone stole my identity and managed to set up bank accounts with HSBC and Barclay.

Sorry I know at this time everyone is trying to post really positive things, but given that my own Bank are not really interested in helping then my latest warning is do no use the web site Shark.co.uk.

Actually, do not use any web site at the moment that you have not used in the past, oh and if anyone banks with NatWest it seems their fraud department has another fraud department who don’t actually answer their phone!

Apart from that I am doing okay!

You poor thing, I know it’s not much but I’m sending you a virtual hug! My husband had to close his current account with Barclays yesterday, some horrid person was buying things using his card details. Luckily Barclays noticed the fraud and contacted my husband. It’s really frustrating because you can’t buy anything at the moment unless you use your card! 🤬🤬🤬

Know you aren’t alone... xxxx

Thank you and actually I think Barclays fraud department are pretty good, last year a person using my details set up accounts online with both Barclay and HSBC, I only realised when I received letters through the post, Barclays were pretty good as they picked it up as a potential fraud and were really helpful, sadly I cannot say the same about HSBC. I am not very happy with my own bank at the moment as I was still on the web site when I called them, something just didn't feel right about the site. Anyway I had to cancel the card and probably I have not lost any money. xx

I personally left HSBC and joined First Direct and got a credit card with Tesco for all my bills Touchwood I haven't had any problems. The trouble is they are very sophisticated and I'm sorry you are affecting

God, I can't spell and I would love to know why you left HSBC. It took me a lot of phone calls and emails before they even shut the bogus account, I guess they thought I was pulling a fast one. An actual person, that was meant to be me actually walked into one of their branches and sat down with someone that gave them an instant £3K overdraft, when I received a welcome package at my home address I called them straight away and I thought I had got the account shut down. But, no, this other me had actually managed to withdraw £2,960 before my phone call! I did report it to the police but it seems that it was not a crime because I didn't actually lose any money. It took three months to remove a debt that was not mine from my credit report.

Are any banks safe anymore?

Blimey, any queries I had on my HSBC account went through to India and I could not understand the girl because she spoke so fast and I was so frustrated....Cx

Oh god I love you, that it seems is where their fraud department is as I found out that they have a department that is called the impersonation department, I thought I was going mad it was only when I started to send what I guess were serious emails that they actually started to help. I even wrote one email that said I will report you to the PM and anyone else that will listen, I promise you I did not lose the plot but for some unknown reason it worked. I doubt I would want or try to have an account with them, but the sad part is I would probably not be able too.

Thank you. xx

Thank you and it will probably happen again as not real choice but to shop online. The main reason that I put the post out was that the site does look real and I even received follow up emails, less impressed with my bank. xx

🙈 In the past I had my credit card details hacked. It was actually used out of this country, and the police were involved.

But, it’s good to know you’re ok, stay safe 🙂

Thanks B,

I am actually angry at the bank as I picked up pretty soon after I had put the info in that there was a problem and the last thing I wanted to do was cancel the card, but I was left with no choice. The site looks real and I haven't given up yet as the department that don't answer their phone deals with internet fraud. I just want the site taken down,

For me it is just three times in quite a short space of time. If I went back over the years then it is probably more like 10 in total and twice I had to involve the police.

I hope you are okay too? xx

I'm sorry you have had to endure this, you are not alone, and there are some very intelligent people with lots of common sense who have been defrauded. Bear in mind that you may endure further attempts at scamming as they have some details now and may share your email address etc? It is worth changing your email address?

DeniseLB profile image
DeniseLB in reply to pinjem

Thank you and I do know. It is not the first time and probably won't be the last, I am not going to change my email address as that is not the problem, Everyone shares email addresses and I have now changed many passwords. The worst out of this really is that I may or may not have lost £50.00 I have cancelled the card so there is no way that they can take any future payments. I think the worst part is how the bank are treating it, I reported a problem within 5 minutes of realising that there was a problem with the site and my bank were not very helpful, it is not the first time that I have had to do this, but it is the first time that I felt that I had no option but to actually cancel the card.

The main point that I was trying to put out is do not use any new web sites at the moment as I don't think you can trust them. As the bank told me fraud is on a massive increase. xx

Sorry to hear this . As if we haven't got enough to deal with.

Out of interest, do you do online banking? I have always resisted this but slowly we are being pushed into doing it.

We use credit card where we can and their fraud department seem to be on the ball.

Paypal also seems to be safe.

We have all these options, so that if one fails we have another choice.

DeniseLB profile image
DeniseLB in reply to cocoa

Yes I do online banking and I would not be able to manage without it, that part by the way I feel is safe and they are upping their ways to keep it that way.

I would not use Paypal as I was once a victim of a fraud where a person stole my debit card and managed to use them to set up an account that I could not access when I found out and Paypal were not even willing to help me.

I also don't use Ebay for a similar reason. We can only go by what actually happens to us. I just want people to be aware and I really am okay. I will do the best I can to get the site that I used taken down from the internet.

This is the first time for me that I felt my only option was to actually cancel my card as previously I had just got items removed. I still think credit cards are the safest way to shop on line and again I really don't have an option. I just want everyone to be more careful and not end up in my situation. xx

No thank you I did sort it out but I felt that I needed to put out there another internet site that looks real that is just going to take your money, I have tried as I always do to follow through with any post that I put out there and I will be back on the phone on Monday to try and get the web site taken down.

How are you doing? xx

Sorry Don, just in case that the no thank you bit was taken as wrong. But I think you do know me, I am pretty tough and hopefully will remain the same, but I am guessing that banks are pretty stretched at the moment and it is not my first interet dodgy web site and I think we should all report anything.

I also would like to know that you are okay? xx
