Before I knew I had ataxia my Dr. said a knee replacement was necessary. How do I know what is causing my pain and balance problems?

ataxia
🤔 I’m diagnosed with Idiopathic Cerebellar Ataxia, this is linked to balance problems.
I’m also separately diagnosed with Arthritis, and I experience painful knees.
Pain is often mentioned by those diagnosed with ataxia, mostly connected to muscles but joints can be painful due to stiffness.
If you’ve previously been advised you need knee replacement surgery..make an appointment with your GP for advice and peace of mind.
Thanks. So you decided against knee surgery?
🤔 I have pain and can’t kneel..so at some point I think I will have to consider surgery
I have about the same problem! Cerebellar Ataxia, Osteoarthritis in the knees ( bone on bone, the orthopedic doc said, showing me the x-rays. ). I get synuclein joint fluid shots, at the Orthopedic Docs office, every few years, rather than go for knee replacement. The shots, here in the USA, are expensive ( Over $1000.00 ). My insurance pays about half! My balance and stiff, hurting knees are daily symptoms, that I just deal with! Oh, and did I mention that I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, and am a caregiver for my wife, who has diabetes, and is in heart failure! I push myself through the pain and discomfort, because I have no choice. Each day is a challenge, for most people, with Ataxia, and, also, who have Parkinson’s! I’m so glad that I have friends, here on HealthUnlocked.com who understand, and give helpful advice, and support! Gotta go now, have to make breakfast for my wife! Eggs are $10.00 a dozen, here in the USA, so, today, I’ll make pancakes!
I live in Ohio, eggs are around $2.50. I am going to look into those shots, thank you for the info. Hang in there....the Lord will bless.
Hi, Where I live in upper MIchigan, the price gouging at the grocery stores is outrageous! There are a couple places, outside of where I live, where eggs are $5/$6, but not here. They average between $7 and $10. Fast food places have doubled their prices in the last couple years here, too! It’s purely price gouging. About 6 months ago, eggs were about $3/ $5 a dozen. So, it’s only been in the last 6 months that they’ve gotten so high. I hope they don’t stay so high much longer!
It's difficult to tell the difference but best to get it checked. Painkillers are for different things and should be discussed and understood. Stay safe and don't forget to smile x
I have SCA6 Ataxiaandi too was I the same position. But I’ve had a knee replacement and now I’m pain free, but my balance is worse. My consultant thinks the anaesthesia made it worse. Next time I need surgery I have been recommended to have an epidural. I would have definitely have the surgery again, as now I’m pain free, but I wouldn’t have had a a anesthetiser
i had a knee injury (torn acl and torn meniscus) but instead of surgery I opted to go to physical therapy. A longer road to rehab but it was my physical therapist who figured out my balance issue were being caused by something else. I find out later that I have ataxia. Maybe a neuromuscular therapist can evaluate your movement and distinguish the ataxia movement from the knee pain movement. Good luck and always keep going!
I have cerebella ataxia. I have stuff joints, balance problem and pressure sometime from my head My PT recommended that I take a cane or a bar and lift over my head straight 3 sets of 15 for 3 times a week
Out pressure on the ataxia hand as much as you can even when brushing teeth
She recommended me to do boxing with 400 - 600 strokes a day. Do everything with a lot of repetition. I See a huge difference in my ataxia. Btw, bosing helps dimentia and MS also.
Now I start to learn typing to flex the muscles in my fingers
