Exciting new project aims to advance research into DRPLA

Ataxia UK has started working in collaboration with the Foundation CureDRPLA to advance research into DRPLA, a rare form of dominantly inherited ataxia. The founders of CureDRPLA have been working with Ataxia UK’s Head of Research in planning research activities to gain important knowledge about the condition and explore potential ways of treating it. In order for Ataxia UK to dedicate more time to DRPLA we are employing a Research Officer dedicated to DRPLA, thanks to a restricted donation from the founders of CureDRPLA. We are excited to be working together in this new programme of work and are already making progress in organising a research meeting, alongside the SCA Global meeting in April this year, and putting out calls for research proposals for a natural history study and a study to develop biomarkers (as is being done for many of the other ataxias already). If you have been diagnosed with DRPLA please do get in touch with Julie from the research team via email on jgreenfield@ataxia.org.uk.
