A warning to all those that are travelling from and to manchester airport, its awful, very stressful, 10 minute walk to the gate, if like me you use a wheelchair and require assisted boarding, ensure your wheelchair is put on the plane! Mine wasnt! Nightmare, took them 4 days to get my chair to the hotel, Flew with Jet2, yes it has put me off going again.

In my 75 years,I have never left the Uk, not even during my nine years of Royal Air Force service..... too many beautiful places to see in the Uk. 😀 Xx

Agree, but some of us also travel abroad to see our families, not for holidays. Or we would not see them for years at a time.

I had some very, very poor treatment at airports, complain, please, maybe it will help others? I had to use a disability charity to complain as it was nigh on impossible to see or negotiate the choices online and calls will be 'lost', and I had several major complaints.

Not very nice I'd be lost without my wheelchair às I'm a fulltime wheelchair user, but have never had a problem,I've been coming to Spain for last 17 years & travelled further afield, but can understand your dilemma.

True

Left it rather late to reply to you Aunt Sally. I too have had appalling treatment at many airports, but someone recommended Gatwick last year. Its a long way to go for me so went the day before and stayed the night in a hotel in the terminal. The walk was easy and short( I use a walker) and the service was really wonderful at the airport. It was worth the longer drive and I am off to Kefalonia again next week

Sounds good, hope you have a great time! Gatwick is too far for me, I would prefer Liverpool but will not even think of going with ryananair not much choice with the others that fly from there with the times, that is why we went from Manchester for the choice

Yep we were at Manchester airport a few weeks after the arena bombing and there was a bomb scare. It was horrendous. The airline staff jumped over the desk and fled whilst armed soldiers screamed at us to run. My husband had to take the wee ones and my daughter with ataxia and I had to get in a lift with armed soldiers and no idea what was going to greet us when the doors opened. I could go on about the subsequent 24 hours where many folk at Manchester airport showed their depressing true colours when faced with disability in a crisis then post crisis inconvenience but it's better for us all if I just focus on 1) the bomb disposal folk did their job 2) our family were wonderful 3) my daughter was far more resilient than her old mum!

OMG that sounds horrendous!! The sort of situation which would be difficult enough, but with a disability absolutely horrendous!

I can't imagine it really. I'm sure people think of themselves and loved ones in that situation first, which leaves us whee

Sorry, must have tapped the send by accident!!! Duh!

What I'm trying to say is you must have felt so vulnerable, bit difficult to run and hide when in a wheelchair . . .

Hope you weren't too traumatized!

Alls well that ends well and thanks for support. It was 3 years ago, I am over it ... until someone mentions Manchester airport ... then I have an opinion ;-) x

When I flew into Manchester we had to deplane by stairs and had to be bussed to the terminal.

LOL I think the moral of the story is that Manchester Airport could do better by us ataxians 😉
